Look around and you’ll see technology everywhere. Be it our smartphones that have become our secret keepers or social media platforms that entertain us with memes, technology is, more or less, involved in every aspect of our lives.
That being said, have you ever thought if the same technology can be used to improve our lifestyle? Well, from sleeping patterns to balancing our diets, we can easily make our lifestyle better with technology.
Below, I’m going to share a few ways technology is improving our lifestyles.
Exercise Tracking
Today, no one can deny the influence of Internet of Things (IoT) devices as they’re essential in keeping track of our body vitals. From smart watches to rings and bands, IoT devices come in all shapes and sizes and measure our vitals such as blood pressure, calorie count, heart rate, etc.
That’s not all, as IoT devices can also help us monitor our body’s performance during exercise. For instance, my Pixel Watch 3 offers different exercise modes such as swimming, cycling, walking, etc.
The best part is that I don’t even need my phone. The watch allows me to play music or listen to podcasts, and even get any important notifications as long as I’m connected to an internet connection.
I can choose exercise modes, and while connected to reliable Cox Internet, my smartwatch can efficiently track my body performance and vitals in real time. Also, in case of any anomaly in my vitals, I can share the data with my healthcare professional without wasting a breath.
Sleep Routines
I had believed all my life that 8 hours of sleep is a necessity for a healthy body and brain. However, I recently learned that medical science doesn’t make this claim. On the contrary, it suggests 7 to 9 hours of sleep is enough for a healthy adult.
Nevertheless, we can all agree that a peaceful night’s sleep is a must after a hectic day, and technology can surely help us with that in the following ways:
- Wearable sleep trackers such as Fitbit Inspire 3 or Samsung Galaxy Ring can offer detailed insights about your sleep quality. While sleeping, these devices can monitor your sleep patterns, phases, heart rate, blood pressure, and more. In short, such devices can offer a detailed analysis and help you improve your sleeping habits.
- Special sleep mattresses are now available in the market with embedded smart sensors. These sensors can offer a personalized sleeping experience as they may inflate or deflate the mattress as per your adjustments or optimal sleeping position. Also, some sleep mattresses may adjust the temperature for the best sleep experience.
Health–Related Information
Now more than ever, we can easily access any piece of information we want. For sticking to a healthy lifestyle, there are tons of relevant reading material and resources you can find on the internet.
Be it doctors, fitness trainers, nutritionists, and more, they actively publish research papers and guides to help their audience. However, make sure to read and follow health-related information from credible sources only, as some research papers may misguide you or spread misinformation.
Also, I won’t recommend using the internet or such sources for any medical diagnosis. For that, seek out a healthcare professional as they offer better guidance.
Mental Health Communities
Some people may argue that excessive usage of social media causes anxiety and depression. Although I believe it’s true to some extent, there’s always two sides of a coin.
You can find several mental health communities and groups on different social media platforms like Reddit and Facebook. There, people share their traumas without the fear of being judged. They may also share their coping mechanisms which are quite useful.
Lastly, such communities and groups can create a sense of harmony among members and help them relieve their mental stress.
Balanced Diets
There is no doubt that a well-balanced diet, full of proteins, vitamins, minerals, carbs, and other essential elements is a must for a healthy body. Today, you can curate a well-balanced diet without seeking a nutritionist.
Health and fitness apps like MyFitnessPal can create a healthy diet and keep track of your calorie count. Not just this, if you get bored or want a change but keep eating healthy foods, such apps can add or change elements of your diet.
Besides well-balanced diets, health/fitness apps can also track eating habits and routines. In short, you can now easily create a customized diet with the help of health and fitness apps.
Lifestyle isn’t only defined by how good you look, or how you carry yourself in the society. Your diet, sleep quality, mental health, and more factors equally contribute in defining your lifestyle. Luckily, technology has become so advanced that it can help us work on and improve those factors that matter, the ones I’ve discussed above.
So, besides using technology for fun and work, make sure that you utilize it to improve your lifestyle as well.
